Our Policies **Updated 10-2-08**

You have questions, we have answers.

  • What is your privacy policy?
We don't share your personal info with anybody, for any reason, period.  The only possible exception is if we are forced to cooperate in a criminal investigation.  Of course, we don't expect our customers to get indicted, so this should be a moot point.
  • How much does it cost to ship my order?
All prices quoted are shipping included.  We ship small items US Postal Service, First Class Mail.  Scopes and other heavier items ship either Priority Mail or UPS Ground.  If you prefer one option over the other, let us know.  Express shipping is always available at extra cost.
  • Do you ship internationally?
Binoculars and spotting scopes, yes, to friendly american allied countries.  Riflescopes, this is where it gets tricky.  The Homeland Security types have been taking exception to certain dealers exporting internationally.  Bushnell, Bass Pro Shops, DNR Sports, recently have all been hit hard with heavy fines or worse (it's all public record).  Check this link: http://www.bis.doc.gov/complianceandenforcement/dontletthishappentoyou2007_sm.pdf
Turns out ALL riflescopes are controlled items.  Those that are military spec are controlled under ITAR and require a license from the Department of State.  We will not be exporting these items.   This includes Eotech HWS, Nightvision, thermal sights, or other explicit milspec items. We do not export IOR riflescopes per agreement with Valdada (it's not illegal, but we can't do it). All other riflescopes are classified as "Dual Use" and fall under the Department of Commerce, Bureau of Industry Security, under the Export Administration Regulations.  The requisite classification is found in the Commerce Control List.  With few exceptions, export of Dual Use items requires a license.  You must also ensure that the person receiving the goods are not under various "no-no" lists published by the likes of the Treasury Department. Certain countries are exempt from licensing under the Dual Use regulations, and we elect to cull others that are otherwise legal but we are not comfortable with.  As of the time of this writing, we can export Dual Use optics to the following countries, in compliance with all custom regulations:
Australia, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Japan, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain and the United Kingdom
We do reserve the right to refuse or cancel any foreign order if we feel it is in our best interests.  It is always best to call or email us ahead of time if you are an international customer.
  • What forms of payment do you accept?
We take check, money order, Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express.  Although we abhor their anti-gun policies, we realize many of our customers prefer to use PayPal so we take that too.  Our PayPal email is Scott@LibertyOptics.com.
  • Do you charge a fee for credit card use?
No, we do not.  But we do discount 2% for orders paid through check or money order.
  • Do you have a moneyback guarantee policy?
No.  We are not a warranty station and we do not do repair work on any optic.  We are also not a bank, or pawn shop. All of our product lines are carefully selected to have full manufacturers warranties.  We do not warranty the products we sell.  Under certain circumstance we will issue a store credit on a case by case basis.  Keep in mind we pay the shipping on all items you buy from us, so any approved returns will have the actual shipping fees deducted from any credit.  NO RETURNS ACCEPTED WITHOUT PRIOR AUTHORIZATION FROM LIBERTY OPTICS!!   All special order items (where we have to search and locate an item for you) are non-returnable.
  • Tell me about your pricing
Most major manufacturers have a little thing called MAP - Minimum Advertised Pricing - when they agree to let you sell their products.  Basically, any dealer caught advertising a manufacturer's products below MAP is subject to sanctions, up to and including the revocation of a dealer's priviledge to sell that manufacturer's product.  Since we are in business to sell optics and other shooting related products, we have a policy of adhering to MAP.  Other companies take things a step further and will "blacklist" a dealer if they are ever proven to sell a product below MAP, or even offer to sell the product below MAP.  So where did MAP come from?
In our opinion, manufacturers created MAP policies in response to the internet/ecommerce age.  Traditional "brick and mortar" stores, or even mail order/catalog companies, had to adapt to the internet age where anyone can hang a cyber-shingle and sell products with low or no overhead.  The result was that prices - and profits - dropped to levels that were deemed uncomfortable for many traditional dealers.  In fact, a representative from a prominent optics company flat out told me "The internet is a dangerous thing".  What he meant was "dangerous for profits". We happen to feel the internet is an amazing and useful invention.  However, during the Dawn of the Ecommerce Age, it is a perfectly valid assumption that manufacturers took many calls and complaints about "Dealer X is selling Product Y at Price Z, and we can't compete with that.  DO something!!"  Since this sort of thing happens today, such is not a reach.
At any rate we may be able to offer you a lower price on any of our products if you just pick up the phone and ask!
  • What about discounts and specials?
We always look to offer you close-outs, bargains, or special demo pricing and bring these deals to you.  For new, current-in-year merchandise, we reserve our absolute best pricing for the following clients:
  • Military, law enforcement, and employees of state "fish and game management" agencies
  • Contributing members of Sniper's Paradise www.sniperchat.com
  • Members of Sniper's Hide who have achieved the level of Lance Corporal or above www.snipershide.com
  • Registered members of Free State Wyoming www.freestatewyoming.org
  • Card carrying members of Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership www.jpfo.org
  • Members of the Montana Shooting Sports Association www.mtssa.org

  • What's with the list above?
Military and police discounts are an easy call.  I have a soft spot for biologists.  Sniper's Paradise is where we got our start, and there are some great folks over there.  Sniper's Hide staff allowed us to work with the members to build a custom tactical scope (the IOR 3-18x42 FFP with modified MP-8 reticle) that really helped our business. Free State Wyoming (FSW) was founded by my good friend and author Kenneth Royce (nom de plume Boston T. Party).  We feel Boston's written work and the FSW represents the highest modern day expression of freedom and what it means to be a true American.  Those who make this a reality deserve our support. We feel JPFO is the only true "bare knuckles brawler" of all the firearms rights organizations.  if they had NRA's budget, or NRA had their mindset, this country would be much better off, in our opinion. MSSA is the 2nd amendment watchdog here in our home state, and are amazing effective.  Gary Marbut is one of the hardest working political activists I've ever seen.
  • What is the best way to order?
Finally, our website!  When you place an order, we get an encrypted email with the order and payment information.  We check availability of stock and either ship the order the same day (if received before 4:00 p.m. EST) or the next business day.  If out of stock, we check backorder status and contact you with your options.  We DO NOT charge credit cards before your item ships.
You may also order via phone (352) 572-1469 or fax (763) 431-5015.
  • Do you take trades?
Sometimes.  We are REAL PICKY about optics, so we don't accept any with scratched lenses or other signs of serious wear.  We don't accept painted riflescopes.  Only scopes/optics with the orginal box and paperwork are accepted. Most of our trades have been a "win-win". We do have interest in acquiring guns and ammo for trade in optics, so if you have something in mind, email Scott@libertyoptics.com.
  • Are you a firearms dealer?
No, we are not a federally licensed dealer.  However, on occasion, we do sell/trade pieces of our personal firearms collection on Gunbroker (www.gunbroker.com), and most are quite happy with the items we sell.  Our handle is Loptics.
